Computer graveyard in Ghana

Our old computers are not always sent to Africa with best intentions, like helping Africans to join the Internet era. No, sometimes the goal of this expedition is far more basic: to get rid of our obsolete and cumbersome material.
The old familial PC then ends its life in a graveyard like the one The New-York Times takes us in their picture gallery A Global Graveyard for Dead Computers in Ghana which I urge you to watch.
This lugubrous place is haunted by scavenger, poor locals looking for the precious metals contained in the electronic components they'll manage to sell.
But don't forget that our computers and electronical stuff also host several toxic chemicals...
If the Basel Convention has reduced such behaviors from North countries and its consecutive pollution, the Convention cannot prevent "gifts", even hypocrit ones like these toxic wastes...
